Cordyceps sinesis
Cordyceps sinensis is a prized medicinal/adaptogenic mushroom in traditional Chinese medicine. It has been said that cordyceps is “more valuable than gold”.. It improves energy levels and stamina; modulates blood sugar levels and cardiovascular functions; improves cellular oxygenation; and increases athletic performance. In the 1990’s when Chinese Olympic track athletes burst on the scene with stunning improvements, their Olympic coach attributed the improvement to the use of Cordyceps.
Reishi mushroom
Reishi mushroom, known in TCM as the “mushroom of immortality” has many tonic and beneficial effects that also include immune stimulation, increased resistance to infection and anti-viral effects. It also enhances macrophage, T cell, B cell, NK cell and phogocytic function. Clinical trials in the USA are underway to study its anti-cancer effects.
Ashwagandha
Ashwaganda is an important Ayurvedic adaptogenic herb used for centuries in India to strengthen the body and mind; slow the aging process; increase strength and stamina; relieve fatigue, and as a source of energy.
Maca
Maca is also known as Peruvian ginseng (though not related to the ginseng family).
It is a rich natural source of minerals and amino acids, especially arginine, well-known for it’s role in the production of nitric oxide. It is an effective tonic strengthening all body functions, reducing fatigue, enhancing immune function, and improving sexual function and increasing libido in both men and women. In traditional Peruvian medicine it is considered an aphrodisiac.
Rhodiola
Rhodiola rosea has long been known as a potent adaptogen. Adaptogens are natural plant substances that increase the body's non-specific resistance and normalise the functions of the body. When a stressful situation occurs, consuming adaptogens generates a degree of generalised adaptation (or non-specific resistance) that allows our physiology to handle the stressful situation in a more resourceful manner. It is believed that adaptogens work by increasing the ability of cells to manufacture and use cell fuel more efficiently.
Rhodiola rosea has been shown to shorten recovery time after prolonged workouts, to increase attention span, memory, strength, and anti-toxic action. Rhodiola rosea extract increases the level of enzymes, RNA, and proteins important to muscle recovery after exhaustive exercise. It also stimulates muscle energy status; glycogen synthesis in muscles and liver; muscle protein synthesis and anabolic activity
Lemon balm
The herb is used for nervous agitation, sleeping problems, and the volatile oils in lemon balm contain chemicals that relax muscles.
Hops
Hops has been used as a calmative, nervine, stomachic, sedative and hypnotic. It has been considered especially useful in alleviating nervous stomach conditions and in helping produce sleep. It is also a diuretic and vermifuge. One of the most popular folk uses is in a “hops filled pillow” which, when used to replace a standard pillow, is said to produce non-narcotic sleep.
GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid)
GABA is an inhibitor found in the brain that limits the creation of too many chemicals that may cause overexcitement by blocking certain brain signals (neurotransmissions). When there is a deficiency of GABA and there is an abundance of these chemicals it can lead to serious problems like: restlessness, irritability, and insomnia.
L- Theanine
L-theanine helps relieve stress by inducing a relaxing effect without drowsiness and may also possess immunologic attributes.
Amla (Emblica officinalis)
Emblica officinalis (also referred to as Phyllanica emblica or simply as Amla) is a herb from Indian medicine (Ayurveda) that has traditionally been used for the purposes of enhancing general vitality and cognition as well as promoting longevity; a goal similar to Adaptogen compounds (although an adaptogenic effect has not clearly been demonstrated with Amla).
